Kurz für das Englische Wort application bedeutet App auf Deutsch „Anwendung“ und ist somit ein Synonym für „Computerprogramm“. Oft wird das Wort allerdings als Synonym für „Mobilanwendung“ verwendet, also ein an Smartphones oder Tablets angepasstes Programm oder auch „Mobile-App“.
